Golden boy Ezra Faulkner believes everyone has a tragedy waiting for them—a single encounter after which everything that really matters will happen. His particular tragedy waited until he was primed to lose it all: in one spectacular night, a reckless driver shatters Ezra’s knee, his athletic career, and his social life.

No longer a front-runner for Homecoming King, Ezra finds himself at the table of misfits, where he encounters new girl Cassidy Thorpe. Cassidy is unlike anyone Ezra’s ever met, achingly effortless, fiercely intelligent, and determined to bring Ezra along on her endless adventures.

But as Ezra dives into his new studies, new friendships, and new love, he learns that some people, like books, are easy to misread. And now he must consider: if one’s singular tragedy has already hit and everything after it has mattered quite a bit, what happens when more misfortune strikes?

My Verdict

This was one of my absolutely must haves from BEA. I had read the synopsis for it way back when it was still "Severed Heads & Broken Hearts" and was really excited for it. While it was kind of strange how they changed both the title and cover so far along, I can understand why. I mean the original title is a bit of a turn off, the cover was cute though. Anyways let's talk about the book!

I was looking forward to a contemporary romance told from a guys perspective since most are the opposite. While I didn't dislike Ezra, I didn't care for him much either.

As for Ezra's love interest, Cassidy, she was hard to understand. I could never tell how she truly felt about Ezra, debate team, or anything really. I think her quirky personality came across as contrived rather than natural.

Overall, I didn't fall in love with this story as much as I expected too. It's an enjoyable contemporary romance, with okay characters but nothing that's going to stick with you once you've finished.

Win the Book

  1. aww.. I'm hoping I enjoy this novel a little more than you did. I am really excited but at the same time not sure about me enjoying a contemporary romance from a male POV. Though I've heard great reviews about it so I'm going to keep my hopes up!

    1. Haha, the male POV is actually what I was excited for. Figured I'd probably be in the minority with my thoughts on this one, hope you enjoy it more than me!!

  2. I saw that you read this on Goodreads. The summary and cover look promising but if you didn't connect with the characters... I still have a feeling I might like it. I like that it has a male POV so much I'll give it a try if it comes my way. Thanks for the review (:

  3. I've heard some good things about this one and it sounds interesting, but I don't think I'll make any assumptions until I read it. Contemporary is a really iffy genre for me. Sometimes I love it and other times its just sort of so-so. Thank you for the giveaway :)

  4. I like your review. I'm glad you briefed some of the characters, because for me, whether or not I like a book depends a lot on the characters.

  5. I am sorry that you didn't like it as much as you hoped. Thanks for your honest thoughts. I've seen mixed opinions about this one.

  6. I hope I'll like Ezra. It's rare to see YA books written from a guy's POV. *crossing my fingers*

  7. Ive heard such good things about this book honestly. I love robyn schneider and i love her youtube channel! i am positive this book will be so good :D
