Synopsis

(From Goodreads)
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

My Verdict

I can’t tell you how excited I was to read an alien book! Vampires, werewolves, zombies, there are plenty of books out there about them, but aliens? Not so many. I don’t know if any of you have seen the TV show Roswell (or read the books) it’s about a group of teenage aliens and my favorite show ever! If you haven’t seen it I highly suggest you go watch it immediately! Anywho, the synopsis of this book sounded very similar; boy saves girl, girl finds out boy is an alien, chaos ensues. So obviously I had to read it.

The whole love/hate relationship between main characters Katy and Daemon is what really pulls you in. There is something addicting about their constant bickering that keeps you turning pages.
I really liked Katy most of the time. Her snarky comebacks, loyalty to her friends, and selflessness were admirable. Plus, she gains a few bonus points for being a book blogger =) However, there was one event, (a school dance) where she made some unbelievably STUPID decisions against her friends warnings just to spite them. I was like WHY are you being so stupid?! Listen to your friends, they’re trying to protect you!! Also the way she would totally melt down and believe Dameon hated her when he would lie about his feelings for her. It was obvious he liked her, but when he would say otherwise she totally believed him even though she denied her feelings for him as well.

Dameon was a piece of work. Looked like a Greek god, acted like the biggest jerk on the planet. His attitude was infuriating 98% of the time. There were a few moments where he was actually sweet, but those moments were far and few between!

I think the alien part could have been done better. The fact that Dameon and Dee had been hiding their true identities for years was hard to believe, considering they weren’t very good at it. They said completely obvious things to Katy like “You’re not one of us” and  “I want Dee to have friends like her” but didn’t expect Katy to pick up on the fact that something was off. How dumb did they think she was? Some of the alien aspects also weren’t explained enough for my liking but what can you do.

Overall, this book kept me turning pages and dying for the next installment, which I’m probably going to end up downloading on my Kindle because the library only has one copy that’s going to take way too long to arrive!! It was no Roswell, but I’ll take what alien love stories I can get thank you very much.

  1. I literally just finished this and completely agree with everything you just said! I loved the snarkiness, of both Katy and Daemon. I didn't even think about hiding their powers for years, despite them being so bad at it, but now it's bothering me!

    Great review!

  2. I love this series! The second I saw the synopsis I kept thinking of Roswell too! All the obvious alien things Daemon and Dee did didn't really bother me, because everyone in town seemed to know that their family and friends were different in some way and sort of steered clear. And, really, as weird as I might think someone is, I'm probably not going to immediately jump to the "their an alien!!" accusation. Out of the three books released so far, the second one is my favorite. It's rare that I love a sequel more than the original, but I really did. I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Who knew there were so many fellow Roswell fans out there!! =D I've actually read the first three already, I'm just behind on reviewing. The second one was my favorite too! I usually feel like sequels just ruin everything that happened in the first, but not with these. Can't wait for Origin to come out!!!

  3. Hahha! It definitely wasn't a Roswell - and I would definitely recommend the next book in the series. Daemon is much less infuriating in the second book! I can't wait for you to read the next books in the series. (:

    1. I would definitely recommend them. But be warned they are extremely addictive and the third one has a horrible cliff hanger. You've been warned ;)

  5. I am glad I finally found a review for book 1 in this series. I have been wanting to read it and now I found a book 1 review. Thank you.
I am looking for a new "monster" to read about. I love my vamps, zombies, witches, etc. but aliens is new and not to death.
EVERYONE tells me to read this book & i am silly for putting it off for so long now.
I'll have to fit it in there with my BEA books after this week ends.
I saw you are going to BEA too. I went for 1 day last year so I am still technically a newbie too.
Ill be standing there looking nervous, happy, shy, and overwhelmed all at once. lolz.
Have fun! I'll say hi if I see ya in a line.

  6. lol Stab-worthy...
What!? I always thought this was about werewolves with the penetrating stare that boy was giving me. The whole mark me thing at least sounds werewolfy... well like Twilight honestly ):
I just heard of the show Roswell when people were comparing it to that new CW show coming out - StarCrossed.
This actually sounds way more interesting than I thought it would be. I don't appreciate the meltdowns but the story sounds awesome (:
